Alex Scrimgeour LIC.AC DIP.Tuina BSC.TCM
TRADITIONAL ACUPUNCTURIST, TCM PRACTITIONER DIEN CHAN CRANIAL-FACIAL MERIDIAN ACUPRESSURE
Alex holds qualifications in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Tuina massage, and Thai massage, and is a specialist in Dien Chan (Vietnamese facial reflexology). He has practised both Qigong, Tai Chi, and meditation for more than 15 years and has learnt with some of the world’s leading practitioners.
He aligns most closely with the lineages of Yeung Family Tai Chi, learning with Yeung Ma Lee in Hong Kong, with Stillness-Movement Nei Dan, learning with Michael Lomax, and with the Buddhist meditation tradition as taught by Burgs.
Having a dedicated practice in qigong since he was a teenager, he naturally gravitated towards Chinese medicine and acupuncture. After completing a BSc. in Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and tui-na from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine (Europe’s leading acupuncture training), he embarked on a clinical internship at Vietnam’s largest teaching hospital, the Institute of Traditional Vietnamese Medicine in Ho Chi Minh City.
The advantage of training in Vietnam rather than China is that the style of acupuncture is more akin to the Japanese approach. The hospital had a whole floor dedicated to the treatment and palliative support of cancer, a whole floor for stroke rehabilitation, and 2 floors for out-patient treatments. They used a combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, western medicine, physiotherapy, diet therapy, massage therapy, and qigong/yoga. During the internship he assisted in the diagnosis and treatment of hundreds of patients. During this period, he formed relationships with some of the leading acupuncturists and massage therapists in Saigon and completed personal training in their methods- including Professor Truong Thin and Dr. Nguyen Viet Nga.
